This workshop will focus on techniques that HIM Professionals use when analyzing Date and Time oriented data. When Date and Time data is analyzed, we frequently get unexpected and unwanted results: misaligned columns, inaccurate LOS calculations, and non-standardized date formats. During this workshop we will review several examples which clearly demonstrate how you can make better use of Date and Time functionality. Calculations of Date and Time are becoming increasingly important when we consider issues of clinical quality and administrative timeliness. How long did it take for a patient to be registered? How long was it from the time a medication was ordered until it was administered? How long did it take for all documentation to be completed? The answer to these questions is controlled by the proper use of Date and Time functions.
