Job Description:  

*Must be an RN with CDI management experience* Experience in NY Tri-state area very helpful and preferred due to knowledge needed with APR's.

The Clinical Documentation Manager provides concentrated daily oversight of the Clinical Documentation Improvement Team. The CDI Manager will work in association with the physicians, CDS clinicians, coders, and all members of the healthcare team to ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation is captured and represents appropriate quality, severity and reimbursement.

  • Management of a highly trained professional CDI team.
  • Assess, coach, train, and develop talent.
  • Managing the Client project, staff, and program goals.
  • Motivate and maintain effective working relationships with the Clients, their employees, and their Medical Staff.
  • Concurrent review of documentation for all assigned patients.
  • Write concurrent and retrospective queries.
  • Verbal communication of medical record findings and concerns with patient care staff to clarify medical record documentation.
  • Coordinate with HIM Coding staff retrospective queries.
  • Perform DRG reconciliation between CDI and HIM DRGs.
  • Maintain CDIP data in the appropriate data bases.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor of Nursing (BSN), Registered Nurse license (RN) with five (5) plus years of advanced clinical expertise in an inpatient setting in which extensive knowledge of complex disease processes were used.
  • Experience: 10 years of acute care experience with management experience10 years of CDI experience required. CDI Program management experience preferred.
  • Required Skills: CDI Subject Matter Expert with program management experience. Leadership and organizational skills along with critical, deductive reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Manage change while minimizing interruption at an operational and service level. Ability to measure and maintain CDI progress. Knowledge and ability to drive operational metrics. Effective written and verbal communication skills with staff and stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Understand and communicate documentation strategies. Presentation and report creation and editing skills. Formulate clinically compliant, effective queries. Ability to apply coding conventions, official coding guidelines, and Coding Clinic advice to health record documentation. Knowledge of disease pathophysiology and drug utilization. Knowledge of MS-DRG and APR-DRG classification and reimbursement structures. Skilled in performing quality assessment/analysis (SOI / ROM).Overall working knowledge of hospital revenue cycle. Knowledge of hospital quality management and its impact on revenue. Working knowledge of electronic medical records systems (EPIC, 3M 360)Computer literate with office-based systems (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint) Preferred Skills: Client relationship management.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Preferred Certifications: Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) or Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS), RHIA, RHIT, and/or CCS
  • Experience in NY Tri-state area very helpful and preferred due to knowledge needed with APR's
